Schroth Therapy (Scoliosis Treatment)

SCHROTH

Scoliosis is a significant spinal deformity condition.

If left untreated, it can lead to:

  • Lifelong back and neck pain,
  • Respiratory insufficiency in advanced deformities,
  • Difficulty performing daily activities requiring extra effort,
  • Depression due to the perception of an asymmetrical body posture compared to individuals with a normal posture.

Early diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis are crucial.

Regardless of whether the treatment is surgical or non-surgical, exercise is the gold standard in managing scoliosis.

Exercises for scoliosis must be performed intensively and with discipline.

Among the exercise techniques recommended worldwide for scoliosis, Schroth’s 3-Dimensional Exercise Therapy is the most widely accepted.

Studies have shown that patients undergoing Schroth techniques require surgery far less often and experience significantly increased satisfaction with their corrected posture.

Schroth exercises, a specialized rehabilitation program for scoliosis, were developed in 1921 in Germany by Katharina Schroth, who herself had scoliosis and worked on these techniques in her workshop.

Schroth is a unique method in terms of success and intensity.

As a scoliosis exercise approach, the 3-dimensional Schroth method aims to realign the distorted body balance in all planes. It is personalized for the individual based on the concept known as the "functional segment."

Schroth Therapy:

  • Lengthens the torso,
  • Corrects bodily imbalances,
  • Addresses spinal curvature in 3 dimensions using a special breathing technique known as rotational breathing.

The Schroth method can be applied to scoliosis patients of all age groups. It can effectively improve body perception and reduce pain, especially in adulthood.

Schroth exercises should be tailored to the individual following an initial assessment and accompanied by an exercise prescription.

At our clinic, Schroth exercises are conducted under the supervision of expert physiotherapists.
